The Power of Authenticity

I spent many years conforming to the status quo, trying to be what others wanted me to be. I was looking for success in someone else’s vision of who I was and what I should be.

There is no power in being someone you are not meant to be. When you have desires in your heart, dreams, whether in your mind or visions in your sleep, and a longing to be something more but you are stuck, or at least feel like you are, in a life that isn’t who you really are, you will rapidly lose your zeal for life. The feelings of discontent, being lost and without purpose take over and everything you do seems as if it is for no reason.

I make this statement from having lived most of my life like this. Searching for who I really was and trying to find true purpose in my life. Honestly, when I say I was searching for something, I mean, I was searching all over the place. I have been a waitress, veterinary assistant, furniture salesperson, a race horse hot walker, a retail store manager, a real estate agent, mortgage loan officer and have owned several businesses. All of them were temporary fixes to desires for one thing. That one thing was to make a difference somewhere, somehow.

In the mix of all of this was my desire for a relationship that was meaningful, lasting and unconditional. When I tell you that the way I found a solution to this only involved one person, you may ask what I am talking about. This solution lay dormant inside me. The reason I could not have a meaningful, long lasting relationship with anyone else was because I didn’t have one with myself. In the depth of it all, I was not being true to myself and being who I really was so I was betraying myself. All outward effects come from an inward belief about ourselves.

The solution that has liberated me is the realization that the only way to truly liberate your life and have passion in your life is to be your authentic self. This is not easy to conclude and even harder to find who you are but through self discovery all of this can happen and your life can become everything you desire. The way you feel about yourself changes, your passion increases, and your desires become actions that create purpose in your life. This purpose fulfills you and this energy moves through you, out of you, and expands to those who come into contact with you.
